 Hi.  My name is Linda Sellman.  I have created this fund raiser for three Filipino children:  17 year old Lili, 3 year old Calix and 20 year old Jean Rose, the step children of my brother.  The two, shown in the picture, are Lili and her nephew Calix.  They live in Angeles City, Philippines.   

 

Last August, the mother of these two girls died two days after being vaccinated for Covid. This left these three children with no income and no other family, my brother left the family and came back to the states, and they were left on their own to survive with no other resources available. Because there is no work in the Philippines, Jean Rose signed a two-year contract to work in Hong Kong, China. She understood- she would receive a paycheck after a month, but later learned she must repay her placement and living expenses so it will be June before she actually receives money.  Lili is left behind to care for her nephew, a stress-filled job which has caused her an ulcer and a hospital stay.

 

In the last four months, these two children have been in the hospital a total of 7 times.

 

Calix had his tonsils removed, plus he suffered a common Filipino childhood disease that caused 104 temps and dehydration, which caused hospitalization, then he was running, slipped and fell, hit his head, causing a slight skull fracture. That fall caused him to be in the hospital twice.

 

Lili has been in the hospital three times: she had a terrible case of chickenpox with a high fever, an ulcer and then asthma which went into pneumonia.

 

Presently she needs a procedure to remove nose polyps which is causing numerous nose bleeds.  Calix seems to be doing well, but we are continuing to address the root causes of their illnesses, hoping they will remain well if they can continue to get the food and medicine they need.

 

My daughter Donna and I have been trying to cover all these expenses plus rent, utilities, food, medicine, medical equipment, transportation, school supplies and other personal needs. We have been doing this for four months, and it has become more than we can handle.

 

Lili doesn't have much education, and without education, the only jobs available are field workers, bar maids or prostitution. She is attempting to be the first in her family to graduate by doing schoolwork at home and carrying it back and forth to the school for grading. She's a bright, intelligent young lady who dreams of coming to the US, and we encourage her to keep dreaming.
