Help Us Provide 500 Care Kits for the Homeless
Donation protected
Every year in the weeks leading up to Christmas, Solar Frontiers makes hundreds of kits full of personal care items for Delaware's homeless population. These kits include items like toothbrushes, combs, soap, and - most abundantly - socks. They are delivered to the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington Delaware to be distributed over Christmas to people who have nowhere else to go, and are spending the holidays in the homeless shelter.
This project began as a Christmas tradition in the Della Valle family, where we put together a hundred kits in an assembly line. From there, it has grown and grown: every year a few more friends and volunteers got involved until finally, last year, the volunteer effort was so large that we could no longer host it in our home! In our larger venue, we met with family and friends and put together five hundred personal care kits for Delaware's homeless population, more than double the amount we'd ever made before.
This year we plan to plan to outdo ourselves even further, but to do this we need fundraising help. Usually the Della Valle family pays to make these care kits all on our own, but as we make more and more of them with the help of friends and family, the donation gets more and more costly. Sourcing all of the supplies and paying for a venue to host our volunteers is an expensive proposition, and we're asking for your help.
While some of the cost of the supplies will be offset by a silent auction full of donated goodies from local arts and culture organizations, we still have to buy all the supplies upfront, and could use a little hand in advance!
Any money collected in excess of what is needed to make this years batch of care kits for Sunday Breakfast Mission will be passed on to Solar Frontiers, a 501c3 nonprofit organization run by the Della Valle family that provides solar powered generators to vital organizations operating in places where grid power is scarce or unreliable. Solar Frontiers has been in operation for over 8 years, providing reliable solar powered devices for refugee camps, rural healthcare facilities, search and rescue teams, and first responders.
Thank you for your help, and may your holidays be bright!
