We Did It Together — And Now the Work Continues
Thanks to the extraordinary support of our community, Save-The-Beach.Org raised over $650,000 to challenge a proposed U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mitigation project that would have permanently altered Hollywood Beach without delivering a sustainable, long-term path to recovery for protected shorebirds.
Because of you, we stood up for our beach, our homes, and sound environmental policy — and we won meaningful victories:
✅ Successfully challenged a flawed mitigation approach that wouldn't have advanced species recovery
✅ Helped stop the use of glyphosate in sensitive coastal areas
✅ Pushed agencies toward more environmentally responsible management practices
These wins prove what informed, organized citizens can accomplish when we work together.
Our Next Mission: Real Recovery, Real Results
We're now focused on a bigger, more ambitious goal: supporting the eventual recovery and delisting of the Western Snowy Plover and California Least Tern from the Endangered Species Act — through solutions grounded in science, sustainability, and responsible habitat management.
True conservation success isn't measured by how many restrictions we impose. It's measured by species actually recovering.
Why Hollywood Beach Was Never the Right Site
Hollywood Beach is a residential coastal community — not optimal nesting habitat. Forcing mitigation here places an unfair burden on residents while failing the very species the project is meant to protect.
Two nearby beaches already offer far better conditions for shorebird recovery:
️ Ormond Beach — expansive, less developed, and ecologically suited for nesting ️ McGrath State Beach — established habitat with existing protective infrastructure
These sites can deliver better outcomes for wildlife and respect the communities along our coast.
What Your Support Will Fund
We're continuing to work alongside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, and state agencies to advocate for:
Expanded predator control programs at Ormond and McGrath Beaches — the single most impactful factor in nesting success
Stronger scientific monitoring and oversight of nesting activity
Sustainable recovery strategies that improve fledgling survival rates
️ Protection of Hollywood Beach from ineffective and damaging mitigation projects
Measurable recovery goals that move these species toward ESA delisting
Your contribution directly supports:
Effort Purpose
Legal advocacy Holding agencies accountable to sound science
Scientific consultation Independent expert analysis and review
Public outreach & education Keeping our community informed and engaged
Regulatory participation A seat at the table in agency decision-making
Ongoing agency engagement Sustained dialogue with USFWS and the Army Corps
This Is About Solutions, Not Politics
We believe endangered species recovery should be judged by outcomes — not by sacrificing communities to projects that fail to address the actual causes of nesting decline.
Predator pressure, habitat fragmentation, and management gaps are the real challenges. Real solutions take real work — and real funding.
Stand With Us
Together, we proved our community has a voice. Now let's use that voice to push for smarter, more effective conservation that protects both wildlife and our coastline.
