Help Us Open Shelter for LGBTQ+ Refugees
Everyone deserves a safe place to arrive.
My name is Bram, and I am the founder of Dar Al Rahma — House of Mercy, a Belgian initiative creating a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people, with a special focus on LGBTQ+ Muslims.
LGBTQ+ Muslims are especially close to my heart. Many LGBTQ+ Muslims can face rejection, isolation, discrimination or danger simply because of who they are and who they love.
Some LGBTQ+ people have had to leave countries or situations where they could not safely live openly. We want to help create a place in Belgium where they can find temporary safety, dignity and acceptance.
We are preparing temporary shelter rooms for LGBTQ+ refugees, including LGBTQ+ Muslims, and others who urgently need a safe place to stay.
We want to offer something simple but deeply important:
A room with a bed.
A door that can be closed safely.
A place to breathe.
A place to pray.
A place to be yourself.
A place to begin again.
We are now very close to making this possible.
We need €3,600 for the final rental guarantees, insurance and essential practical costs needed to prepare the space and open the shelter rooms.
This is not about luxury.
It is about safety, dignity, faith, acceptance and human kindness.
The accommodation is intended as temporary safe shelter. It does not replace official asylum procedures or professional legal services.
If you can help, every donation — large or small — brings us closer.
And if you cannot donate, sharing this campaign with your friends, family and network can make a real difference.
Thank you for standing with us and helping us create a safe place to arrive — especially for LGBTQ+ Muslims who need to know that they are not alone.
