For the past few months, my fiancé, her kids, and I have been working hard to move into a new home and create a better living situation for our family. Along the way, we’ve faced challenges we never expected—like having to pay out of pocket for stable water in our home when our landlord wouldn’t help, and losing work in multiple ways. These setbacks have made it nearly impossible to save up for a move, even though we’ve done everything we can to keep things together.

Now, we’re in a situation where we have to leave our apartment soon, and we need help to make the transition as smooth as possible. After a long search, we’ve finally found a place that’s available, but we need funds to cover moving costs, a deposit on our new apartment, and the essentials to get us started in our new home. As a producer and visual artist, I’ve been trying to get commission work, but business has been slow, and every bit I earn goes straight to groceries and keeping a roof over our heads. My fiancé also lost her job unexpectedly last month, which has made things even tougher.

Asking for help isn’t easy for me—I’ve always preferred to work for what I earn.
