Help Us Move Our Trans Teen Out of Texas

Hello, my name is Desiree. I am the mother of a trans teen in Texas. As you may have heard, #Texas Governor Greg Abbott has stated that doctors, nurses, and teachers should be subject to criminal penalties if they don’t report parents whom they believe to be helping their children receive gender-affirming healthcare to state authorities. He has also called upon the general public to make such reports as well, as explained in his letter here.

 

Our teen was looking forward to her first appointment with a specialist to talk about what could be done to help her with her body transition. She has been struggling emotionally and mentally about her body and was anxiously awaiting this doctor's appointment that has taken months to get in. Then the news came about what the Governor has said and that she essentially cannot safely proceed with the gender-affirming process. She was so close to starting this process and now she understandably has chosen that she cannot go forward with it here in Texas. We have been planning on relocating to Colorado, which supports the #LGBTQ community better than Texas, but this has made it all the more urgent to provide a safe environment for our child in her daily life. She can't even be honest about her feelings and emotional health to therapists or doctors here without fearing that there is a chance that they'd make a report.

 

She's not out with being #trans yet so I can't put up a picture of her. She's almost 15 years old and is a very caring and loving individual who helps support her trans friends. She loves cats, the color purple, is very creative, and looks forward to finally being able to be who she really feels on the inside. We are trying everything we can to help her through what she's going through and are graciously asking for your help with this move to get us to a state where she can begin this process safely.

I have named Miguel Diaz as the beneficiary. He is my husband and our teen's father. He will use the funds for moving costs such as packing supplies, moving rental vehicle, gas (for both our vehicle and the moving rental vehicle), hotels, food while traveling, utility start-up costs, apartment move-in costs (application fees, deposit, pet deposit, first month's rent), grocery start-up costs (refrigerated and frozen items we couldn't bring with us).
