In Green Bay, WI, a small act of compassion turned into a lifeline for people with nowhere else to go.
For several of the coldest nights this winter, Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, a safe place for cats needing second chances, quietly opened its doors after hours to welcome community members who had no safe place to sleep. With help from Safe Haven, we organized overnight stays, providing warmth, safety, and a sense of dignity to people who were otherwise facing the freezing streets - offering them an opportunity to be warm AND volunteer with sanctuary.
Recently, Safe Haven received a notice from the City of Green Bay that, under current ordinances, they could no longer shelter people overnight. This decision has left several people experiencing homelessness without a stable place to go.
Thanks to incredible community support, those who had been staying at Safe Haven are temporarily in a hotel—but this is only a short-term solution. We now urgently need to secure a long-term, safe space for them.
Heres where your money will go:
• A BUILDING OF THEIR OWN!
• Hotel stays and emergency shelter so no one is forced back onto the streets.
• Meals to ensure everyone has reliable access to food.
• Warm clothing and basic necessities to help them stay safe and healthy.
• Transportation and related costs to get to appointments, meetings with case workers, and potential housing opportunities.
Why We’re Raising Funds:
Myself and others have been working closely with city officials to find a solution for these friends to go. As I shared, “Coming back to Safe Haven isn’t an option—that’s against the ordinance, they can’t change the ordinance overnight.”
Until a new location is secured, community support is the only safety net these neighbors have.
We are committed to transparency and accountability. Funds will be used exclusively to support the individuals affected by this situation, the volunteers of Safer Haven Sanctuary.
Hope, Community & Advocacy have survived
despite the heartbreak of having to leave Safe Haven, we know there is real hope.
I feel hopeful in a way I haven't in days: “I truly believe that it is the advocating that the city and the country has done on their behalf that has made this come about so rapidly and so smoothly.”
Your support is part of that advocacy.
By donating and sharing this campaign, you are:
• Standing with our neighbors and friends in Green Bay that don’t have shelter
• Supporting the work of volunteers and advocates who refuse to look away
• Helping to create a sustainable long term solution, that has been desperately needed.
NO ONE should be left outside in Wisconsin winters.
Please consider donating what you can and sharing this GoFundMe so we can keep these community members safe, sheltered, and supported while a permanent solution is found.
Together, we can turn a moment of crisis into a story of compassion, resilience, and community care.
