Help Us Launch a Dementia-Friendly Choir

Hello! We are raising funds for Raising Voices, Inc: a new dementia-friendly choir in Stillwater. With taxes on the mind this spring, we want to let you know that we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization!

Raising Voices has adopted the mission to provide meaningful engagement in a supportive choral community for persons living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. It’s a dementia-friendly choir, meaning we will have extra accessibility measures in order to make rehearsals a relaxing and enjoyable time for all! In order for us to accommodate the specific needs of each person, we need to raise funds to afford quality technology and rehearsal supplies. Help us help you and your loved ones!

Cognitive decline can be isolating for those experiencing it as well as their loved ones. Raising Voices provides a space of empowerment and joy where its members can experience the health and social benefits of making music together.

Singing familiar songs has been shown to improve cognition and verbal fluency. Group singing uses all parts of the brain and increases neuroplasticity. It also improves breathing and lung capacity, mitigates age-related hearing loss, and boosts the release of endorphins and serotonin - the happy hormones! Through choral engagement that promotes dignity and respect, dementia patients and their carepartners can realize holistic improvements to their well-being and quality of life.

On April 26, 2025, we will begin our first semester of singing once a week for 8 weeks. From 1-3pm at Hazel Modella Art Gallery we will have a mix of rehearsal and social breaks to create community, but we need your help! We need startup funds for rehearsal supplies, accessibility technology, artist fees, and anything else our participants require. We would love to see our choir come alive and succeed!
