Right now, we need your help to save something truly special.
Kids Passport to Adventure (KPTA) has long been a bright light for children and families across New York City. Founded by beloved educator and community leader Crystal Williams, KPTA is a space where young explorers come alive — where they build confidence, connect with nature, and discover the world beyond their own neighborhoods. My own son has grown tremendously through this program, year after year. It’s changed the way he sees himself and what’s possible.
This summer, that light is in danger of going out.
Due to significant economic shifts in our community and devastating changes to federal funding streams, KPTA is experiencing a financial crisis. And like so many Black and Brown-led institutions across the country, it faces the threat of disappearing altogether.
We cannot afford to lose spaces like this — not now.
When a program like KPTA disappears, it’s not just a camp that closes. It’s access to horseback riding, hiking, STEM enrichment, sailing, swimming, cooking classes, storytelling, and cultural immersion. It’s dynamic, engaging childcare that our working families rely on. It’s a safe, joyful place where kids of all abilities are celebrated and empowered.
While the cost of running a full summer season is simply too great under current conditions, a strong community response can still save part of the summer. With your support, KPTA can offer a modified season, where some weeks of programming can still take place. This means that dozens of children can continue to benefit from the magic of KPTA — and families who have come to depend on this camp will not be left scrambling for care and structure in the hot summer months.
I am raising funds on behalf of KPTA because I am a trusted advocate in this community, and I know firsthand what this program has given our children. Every contribution will go directly toward covering staffing, supplies, transportation, meals, and access to all the enriching experiences that make KPTA so extraordinary.
At a time when joy, discovery, and nature are harder to come by for all of our children, we must protect the places that offer them all three.
Please give what you can, share with your network, and help us keep this beautiful adventure going.
With deep gratitude,
Nailah Ricco-Brown
