On Saturday April 18th, my mentor and the creator of Misfit Kitchen Gardens, Lucas (Redbeard) Knapp was murdered due to transphobic bigotry. After being granted permission by his mother Gail, I, Daniel McGill, his apprentice who was helping him cultivate his beautiful dream, will now be continuing his legacy on his land.

Redbeard's vision was to create a food forest and a place for queer and trans people to come and not only learn, but just be. You could rest, you could read, and most importantly you could learn. He wanted it to be a sanctuary of learning. I remember the first time I came out I started some online mushroom farming classes. He was so excited because, as he said to me, "I want this to be a place of learning."

Lucas's short term goals for his land was to add an outhouse, start a corn field, and work on spring and summer seed starts. We were also planning on selling hot dogs this summer and hopefully getting some sort of vendor cart. We will be starting these things ASAP, however we are setting up safety precautions at the forefront of necessity. Safety precautions such as fences, cameras and more safety measures that I won't detail here. We are also looking for anyone who was close with Redbeard who is willing and able to come stay on the land and offer protection. Please reach out to me if this sounds like you.

Long-term, Lucas wanted an adobe style house, a structure where people can work on projects, a better locking tool shed, and hopefully eventually tents and other structures for people to stay in, plus more fruit trees and other plants obviously.

Whenever anything is purchased for the farm using money from this go fund me I will update it here. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, concerns, or if you were close with Redbeard and want to come out and help once security measures are in place, or if you want to be security.

Protection needs:

- tall industrial fencing

- barbed wire for the top of the fence

- locking gates

- security cameras (at least 6)

- self defense items

- more people who cared about him to help just by being here

Monetary needs:

- property taxes

- wifi payment

- gas for vehicles to transport supplies

- fees for filing LLC & 501c(3) (LLC may already be filed, but there will be fees to transfer ownership)

Structural needs:

- locking tool shed

- cabins for guests

Miscellaneous needs:

- another power system to set up lights and temperature control for mushroom farming

- lights, heat pads and thermostats

- dog and cat food for his pets

- water
