Help Us Honor Omar With A Well and Masjid Project

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
To Allah we belong, and to Him we return.

My name is Fatoumata Camara, and I’m the sister of Omar Camara — my brother, my heart, my friend.

At just 18 years old, Omar returned to Allah after a tragic car accident that shook our entire family and community. He was laid to rest on Thursday, May 1st. , and it still doesn’t feel real. As we grieve this unthinkable loss, we want to honor his life with something lasting — something that reflects the beautiful soul he was.

Omar was calm, kind, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He was the kind of son every parent dreams of: hardworking, respectful, and always helping. A big brother to four younger siblings who relied on him for everything — school drop-offs, homework help, and laughter in the house. A devoted nephew, grandson, cousin, and a trusted friend to many.

He was about to complete his first year of college, studying pre-engineering while also working and supporting our father at his shop. He loved soccer, carried a peaceful spirit, and balanced school and work like someone far beyond his age. And most of all, he loved the masjid. Omar grew up at Masjid Salam — praying, learning, and giving back. The night he passed, he had just finished praying Isha there, the same masjid where he regularly contributed to fundraisers and supported community efforts.

To honor the life Omar lived, we are launching this GoFundMe as a form of sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity) — so his reward continues, even now that he has returned to his Creator.

We are raising funds to:

Build a clean water well in a community in need — where water will nourish lives and continue Omar’s legacy of service

Support an ongoing masjid construction project — where people will pray, gather, and remember Allah. Every prayer, every verse recited, every act of worship in that space will carry reward in Omar’s name.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them.” (Muslim)

These efforts are intended as sadaqah jariyah on Omar’s behalf — a gift that keeps giving, bringing reward to him in the next life, insha’Allah.

We pray this well and masjid become a source of light in Omar’s grave, and a means of ongoing mercy for his soul.

Ya Allah, You are the Most Merciful. Please have mercy on my brother.
Please accept this offering on his behalf. Forgive him, expand his grave, and reunite us with him in Jannatul Firdaus.

Please donate whatever you can and share widely.
May every contribution be written as a blessing for Omar — and a reward for you.

Ameen.
