Our Story

My name is Kalee Hayden.
Our family has been carrying a heavy weight since November 7, 2024. What happened that day changed our lives in ways we never expected. When multiple bylaw trucks, undercover police vehicles, and paramedics suddenly surrounded our rural home under the claim of a “safety” check, everything we had built felt shaken.

The operation made no sense. There was no emergency. The paramedics never left their vehicles. Officials only walked around measuring buildings and taking photos. From that moment on, our daily life, our sense of safety, and our long-term stability were all affected.

Instead of spending evenings together, my husband now spends every night preparing legal documents. Instead of working to support us, he has been forced into defending us in court. Instead of focusing on our home and our land, we are fighting simply to keep it.

This fundraiser is not something we ever thought we would need. But right now, it is what will help our family stay afloat during an overwhelming and life-altering legal battle.

Why We Need Support

We cannot afford a lawyer, so my husband has taken on the entire case himself.
He normally works in landscaping, contracting, and winter plowing, but the legal workload is so demanding that he cannot work at all.

Since February, he has spent over 1,000 hours researching legislation, preparing affidavits, organizing evidence, studying case law, filing documents, and responding to the City. The time required for this case has replaced our entire income.

Your support will help cover:

basic household bills

food and essentials

winter needs

transportation to court

printing and filing costs

the income we’ve lost during this fight

support for the tenants who rely on us for stability

We have always worked hard and supported ourselves. This situation has taken that ability away.

Why Our Case Is Strong

We believe in our case because of what has already come to light:

The original judge had to recuse herself due to a conflict of interest.

The City attempted to avoid providing proper disclosure.

When we finally received the documents, they revealed:

unlawful entries onto our property in previous years

contradictions in the City’s own records

no real safety basis for the warrant

evidence-gathering disguised as a safety operation

missing or incomplete disclosure

These issues raise serious concerns about how the entire operation was carried out.

How This Case Helps Others

This fight is not only about our home.
Many rural families, low-income residents, and lawful tenants in Greater Sudbury have experienced similar overreach.

By standing up now, we hope to:

expose the misuse of “safety” warrants

prevent staged emergency-style raids

force proper procedures

protect lawful tenants

create a record that others can rely on

ensure this does not happen to other families

We are fighting for accountability, fairness, and a safer community for everyone.

My husband is also working at taking other action to help preserve and re-establish the recognition of property rights in Canada.

This has been one of the hardest chapters of our lives, but we are doing everything we can to stay strong.
Your support helps us keep our family stable while we continue this fight.

We are deeply grateful for anyone willing to stand with us.

With gratitude, honour and love,
Kalee and Family
