Last year, we showed up in force and convinced the City Commission to unanimously vote down changing this corner from office/residential to commercial zoning, preventing a gas station from going up at the corner of Blair Stone & Miccosukee. Since then, the owner's high-priced lawyer convinced a judge to quash that vote, and now the City Commission has to re-vote with stricter rules. The judge's order means we need to hire a lawyer and court-recognized experts to help defeat this.
A group of us have been working closely with the legal and planning experts to identify how we will defeat this change again. It's clear that to do so that we need to hire experts to help, but we need help to afford them.
This fundraiser will go toward:
Hiring a highly recommended local land-use attorney.
Hiring court-recognized experts such as city planners or traffic engineers to fight on our behalf.
Contributing to this fundraiser will help protect one of our most valuable assets - our quality of life. We believe the City Commissioners want to hold to their original vote, but we have to make sure the information we present adheres to the judge's order. Having these experts on board will help.
