Help Us Help Our Friends
Elevator Installation Project for Historic Meetinghouse

Salt Lake Friends Meeting, a small meeting of Quakers, needs help to install an elevator to make its Meetinghouse safe and accessible to all who gather there. Those who cannot use the existing stairs have no access to our restroom facilities. Our building is an historic church in Murray, Utah. We have been restoring the structure since its purchase, striving to maintain its unique architectural character. Our building is also used by a Pentecostal Church of African immigrants. They too are affected by the restrictions of not having a lift.

We wish to make the building useful for everyone regardless of their mobility restrictions and to offer its space during the week for educational, social, and other communal gatherings. In order to share our building more, we must complete this ADA requirement.

We are about halfway through the project. We have acquired the necessary installation drawings and needed permits. The lift shaft has been prepared, and the lift itself is at the Meetinghouse awaiting installation by the elevator installation company.
