Help us help Moses build new sanitary toilets in Kibera

Moses is an activist who has dedicated much of his life to improving living conditions in Kibera, the largest slum in Nairobi and East Africa overall, where he also lives. Moses gives regular tours of Kibera, where he shows visitors how the people living there seek to organise, improve their living conditions, and find ways to create the needed infrastructure when institutions fail to do so. Not only does he uses some of the funds from these tours to give back to the community; he networks he builds through the tours are also essential to organise further fundraising for local projects. Recently, Moses has been focusing on building reliable provision of clean water and better toilet facilities in the poorest parts of Kibera.
With this fundraiser, we would like to help Moses build the next set of toilet and shower facilities he is currently working on. The estimated cost of a toilets and showers block (four toilet cubicles plus two showers) is 2,500 USD. It involves creating space between tightly packed huts - there is no running water, all water comes from tank lorries who can only get to the next accessible road, which might be far away. So you need a lot of pipelines, and you need to get a giant water tank (between 3 and 10000 litres cap), which is refilled by the lorry, and then somehow get that into the most tightly-packed areas of Kibera - the most deprived ones - without any proper roads. The poorest parts of Kibera are far away from main roads. Sometimes the tank needs to be rolled over the roofs of the huts - making sure not to knock them down! This is just an example for how challenging this can be.

This is an ambitious project, so we are aware we might need multiple waves of momentum to do so. Watch this space, we will be posting regular challenges we are going to embark on to get your support and raise enough funds. But you can also join us! If you'd like to participate in this fundraiser by doing a challenge of your own, please get in touch!
