3rd Annual Juneteenth Cookout

Every year for the past 2 years, I have been hosting Juneteenth, and every year has gotten bigger and more robust with BIPOC influence and infusion. Serving the community with music, food, and fellowship!

Last year's theme was 50 Shades of Brown, celebrating all the shades of brown that we as BIPOC come in. As I begin to plan the next celebration, I would love to raise funds to continue growing the Juneteenth cookout to its highest potential. One of the biggest initiatives that I'd like to raise money for is a donation to be given to one of our local community organizations providing resistance to oppressive systems and policies, mutual aid to the community, and education on how to look out for one another and their fellow neighbors. Moreover, I would love to continue to support BIPOC businesses, entrepreneurs, artists, and more!

Last year, we had 2 DJs, catering from Sweet and Spicy Fusion Bistro, Black-owned spirits from Dumas Rum, Black art, and the gathering of BIPOC and allies galore!

My goal this year is to continue what was brought to the table last year while also:
  • Collect at least $500 to donate to Harriet's Wildest Dream https://www.harrietsdreams.org/
  • Collect at least $500 to donate to an active member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Zeta Phi Chapter at Howard University
  • Expand the catering options to 2 food sources
  • Host live artwork and curate a space for artists to showcase their work
  • Provide an amazing fellowshipping experience for all attendees.

Last year, the total cost of everything was about $2000. I asked for donations starting from $10 and up and received about $300, which certainly helped contribute to the cost of food, beverages, decorations, and entertainment. So, let's see if this year we can raise $1000 for donations to Harriet's Wildest Dream and a Howard University student who has committed their life to service in Alpha Phi Omega, Zeta Phi Chapter. Then, let's see if we can raise the funds to have an even more amazing experience than last year and raise $2500; a grand total of $3500!

Your support is greatly appreciated and as time goes on, please look out for updates and more on this year's Juneteenth Cookout Celebration.
