At Emiliano Zapata Street Academy, we work every day to uplift and transform the lives of young adults in Oakland. As one of the first alternative schools in the area, we have proudly served our community for over 50 years by creating a space where students feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.

At Street Academy, students thrive through small class sizes, trusted relationships, and personalized support. We offer credit recovery, college and career planning, and a safe environment where students can grow at their own pace. Our staff works closely with students and families to build strong connections and encourage young people to take ownership of their education and future. Above all, we believe in every student’s ability to rise.

Throughout the years, we have hosted programs and events that bring our school community together through healing, support, and connection. From community gatherings to shared meals and celebrations, these moments help strengthen the relationships that make Street Academy feel like home.

This year, we are excited to continue building our Peace Keeping and Leadership Training Program for Street Academy students. This program is designed to provide young people with valuable life skills, leadership development, school climate support experience, conflict resolution training, and real-world opportunities that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.

Through this program, students learn how to become positive leaders within their school community while developing communication skills, accountability, teamwork, and restorative practices. Students actively help create a safer and more supportive school environment while gaining hands-on experience that can support future educational and career goals.
