Help Us Start Our Family With Reciprocal IVF

We’re Sierra and Nyx, and we are so excited to be starting our journey toward parenthood through reciprocal IVF.

As a same-sex couple, this process gives us the beautiful opportunity to share in the experience of bringing our baby into the world. Through reciprocal IVF (also called shared motherhood) one of us (Nyx) will provide the egg, and the other (Sierra) will carry the baby.

Why the Raposo Family Needs Your Help

For the last few years, we have been putting all of our spare change into our community. We have run over 75 LGBTQ+ events in London through Glass Closet Events and QueerSwap since 2022, providing affordable, accessible, inclusive, safer spaces for people to connect, create, and celebrate. We absolutely LOVE what we do for our community, but it does mean that we haven’t been able to save as much as we would have liked for Baby Raposo.

The costs of reciprocal IVF includes preliminary testing, fertility medications, egg retrieval, embryo creation, genetic testing to make sure the embryo will be genetically viable, the embryo transfer, and ongoing medical care.

While some preliminary testing, pre-natal, and post-natal care will be covered by public health services from the SNS (Portugal) or NHS (UK), the cost of the reciprocal IVF treatment is not covered by public healthcare in either country.

We will be pursuing our IVF treatment through Ferticentro, a private medical clinic in Portugal that provides end-to-end fertility care and support for reciprocal IVF couples.

How Your Support Will Help

Every donation will bring us one step closer to Baby Raposo.

Our first fundraising goal is £2,800 which will go towards covering the cost of egg retrieval for embryo creation. F/F couples must use donor sperm in Portugal, and it is a blind donor selection process. However, the child will be able to inquire about their donor parent when they reach 18. The retrieval service includes egg freezing for up to five years while we fundraise and save additional money.

The next goal will be an additional £2,500 to cover the cost of genetic testing for the embryos and donor sperm for fertilization. The testing will determine which of the embryos are most viable for implantation and most likely to result in a successful pregnancy/live birth.

The final goal will be the remaining funds, required for the actual implantation of up to two viable embryos.
