Help us get to Labor Notes conference in Chicago!

Our names are Katie and Lincoln and we are two 18-year-old baristas at the Lakewood Crossing Starbucks in Marysville, WA. I (Katie) am a high school senior at Stanwood High School and have been working at Starbucks for a year. I am extremely passionate about coffee and unionizing Starbucks! Lincoln and I organized a union and strike in our store. We went on a 3 day strike back in the beginning of April. Our store hadn’t even began collecting cards but on the third day of that 3 day strike, we had collected over 70% of our union cards and petitioned for a union election. Two weeks after filing for an election we received our vote date, our ballots will be sent May 31st and counted June 21st at 1pm! Since filing our store has faced intense union tactics from corporate from petty threats/write ups to large hour cuts. We are tired of corporations exploiting workers for profit!

Lincoln and I have been invited to attend the Labor Notes Conference in Chicago June 17-19th. We will be apart of the many other organizers, activists, and leaders there to represent our store and Starbucks Workers United! This conference is an amazing opportunity to help us grow as organizers and leaders. We are asking for financial support to help us get to Chicago for this conference. Being two young union organizers, while also being students trying to move out and only making $15 an hour with labor cuts, has left us with very minimal funds for this extremely amazing opportunity. We are asking for any support that you can give to show solidarity to your local baristas!
