Update: We're here! So thanks to the many many donations, ranging from $5 to $1000 we were able to make it safely to the Bay area of California. It cost us just under $5K to get here over 5 days, Chet drove the budget truck and I drove our old Escape. It was rough, but we made the best of it. We've been here almost two months, and yes it's expensive here.
The one pebble in our shoe is our home in Houston has not sold or leased. It's a terrible time to sell a house, and even tho we put in a month's worth of work to get it ready (and I injured my back doing it), it's been sitting on the market. So we're paying that mortgage, prop tax, home insurance, lawn maintenance, etc + our $2700/mo rent on our tiny apartment. We also have a car payment now, we sold Chet's truck because we didn't think it would make the journey here. If you're so inclined, we could still use your help.
The kids had a rough adjustment period with new school and no friends, but they're settling in. Sunny went to her first school dance and had the best night of her life, and she's joined Cheer and will be going out for track and volleyball.
We’re just a family in Texas that have been fighting for years for our transgender child’s right to exist in our state. We’ve hit the end of our battle here in Texas and we’re fleeing to a safe state so our child can have access to all the basic needs of a human. She deserves the chance to grow up and thrive. We as parents deserve the right to not be criminalized for loving who she is.
It’s not just Sunny who’s affected by what the TX legislature has done and continues to do, it’s our whole family. We’ve had enough. The cost of living in safe states is almost double here, so we're hoping to get some help for moving costs and to ease the struggle of setting up where we land. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering to help and please only share to safe contacts.
