Hi everyone,
This is JR (short for Junior). He has a rare genetic disorder called MCT8 Deficiency. JR doesn’t speak, can’t control his arms or legs, and gets all his nutrition through a feeding tube. He relies on a manual wheelchair to get around, which means we need a wheelchair-accessible van just to leave the house.
Right now, our van is almost 15 years old—and it’s falling apart. Not long ago, the alternator died and we got stuck on the side of the highway. Getting him home safely was a nightmare. At this point, the repairs cost more than the van is worth, and it’s already made us miss several important medical appointments. We just can’t rely on it anymore.
We’re hoping to get JR a new wheelchair-accessible van so we can safely get him to all his appointments—including out-of-state visits with specialists who really understand his condition. A newer, larger, more reliable van would make a huge difference in his quality of life.
We’re looking at full-sized vans like a Ram ProMaster or Ford Transit (with windows), side-entry and fully accessible. A new one (with under 100 miles) costs over $120,000.
As JR’s mom, I’ve poured everything into giving him the best care possible. I just want to keep him safe, healthy, and connected to the care he needs. If you can help in any way—by donating or sharing this page—we’d be so incredibly grateful.
Thank you for reading and for supporting our family. ❤️
