A Personal Note From Mai

I'm going to be really vulnerable for a minute.

The $6,245 we're trying to raise is the upfront deposit needed immediately to secure Chenzi's surgery on 9 July. This amount covers the surgeon's fee only. The hospital fees, anaesthetist, and other associated costs will come later and can be managed after the surgery.

Paying this deposit doesn't just cover the surgeon's fee—it secures the earliest available surgery date. Even in the private system, there is no guarantee that if we miss this opportunity, another appointment will become available so quickly. We simply don't want to risk the sarcoma growing while Chenzi waits any longer than necessary.

The truth is… I can pay for this surgery. What I can't do is pull together such a large amount at such short notice.

If you know me, you know I'm a hustler and a fierce provider for those I love. I will move mountains for my kids and for my community, and I have every intention of covering these costs myself. The timing is simply impossible to manage on such short notice.

Asking for help doesn't come naturally to me. In fact, writing this has brought up feelings of shame, embarrassment, and even a sense of failure. I've spent a lot of time reflecting on why accepting support feels so difficult.

So I'd like to think of this not as a fundraiser, but as a community loan.

My commitment is that once the surgery deposit is secured and Chenzi is safely through the operation, I will work my way through the list of supporters in chronological order and repay every single person who contributes. I'm actively exploring every financial avenue available to make that happen as quickly as possible, including accessing my own superannuation.

And for anyone who doesn't want their money back… well, I can't compete with cancer, but I can absolutely offer a hugemongous hug (for those who enjoy being hugged ).

More than anything, thank you for caring about Chenzi and giving him the chance to have this surgery without unnecessary delay. If you're not in a position to contribute financially, please consider sharing this page with your friends and family. Every share could bring us one step closer to securing his surgery.

Your kindness means more to our family than words can express.
