On August 1st, my wife Victoria and I were supposed to launch Made of Sugar during the WorldPride Amsterdam Canal Parade.
We had been planning this moment for an entire year.
When our original float concept fell through, we didn’t give up. We pivoted and built the float ourselves using recycled bike wheels, reclaimed fabric, old CDs, lights, secondhand materials, and anything else we could give a second life to. And somehow, we made it to the starting line.
I looked at Victoria and said, “We did it.” Five minutes later, we couldn’t sail.
Despite having received written approval to use the motor on our boat, which specifically allowed our accessibility setup; that approval was reversed at the starting line and we were ultimately unable to participate in the Canal Parade.
After a year of planning and a significant amount of money invested into making this launch happen, we were left with substantial unexpected costs. We are pursuing recovery of those costs through the appropriate channels, but we don’t know how long that process will take. For a small business just getting started, absorbing a hit like this is significant.
So we’re asking our community to help us through it. Your contribution will help offset the unexpected costs of our interrupted launch as we continue with our plans for Made of Sugar, including launching our first product, the F*CK MY BATTERY BAG.
If you believe in what we’re creating, please donate or share this campaign.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps. Thank you for supporting us and helping us keep moving forward.
