Help Us Support Wawa Amaru!

Movimiento Pintag Amaru is a community-based organization and movement in Pintag, Ecuador. We work to preserve the ancestral knowledge of our territory and revitalize that knowledge through practices that represent alternatives to the dominant western models of education, agriculture, and relationship to land. We do this through the preservation of diverse seeds in our seed bank, the conservation of native forests, and the recuperation of our ancestral knowledge of land use and agriculture. Our dream is to build an eco-village where we can carry out these processes and activities, and invite others to come dream, learn, and create with us.
Over this past summer, we have been building "Wawa Amaru" ("Wawa" meaning children in Kichwa) which will be a dedicated space for the children of this community. "Wawa Amaru" will give children and youth their own space to create, learn, have workshops, and play. As one of our main goals as an organization is to preserve ancestral knowledge, this will be a space to recuperate the memory, history, and identity of these communities and pass it on to the next generations. This project has led us a step closer to creating the ecovillage that we dream of but we now need your help!
Through other funding, we were able to build most of the house, but we now need your help completing it! In order for us to finish "Wawa Amaru", we need to complete the floors, roof, and walls, as well as the interior with windows, doors, etc. If you are curious to see the process of how we have been building it, check out our video!
This project needs your help now so that we can finish construction and continue with our dream of the ecovillage, where we can honor our ancestors and continue to build a healthier path forward for our community. Your contribution would be invaluable to this project’s completion!
We are deeply grateful for your help, and if you would like to come and spend time with us in Ecuador, volunteering or working on this project (or other projects - check out our work here ), we welcome you! We have had international volunteers stay with us over this past summer and help with construction and we always welcome new friends.
Please help us finish our dream! If you cannot contribute economically, please spread the word by passing this link on to your networks.
