My name is Shanon Hyche and I'm from Cordova, Alabama. Mission 34 unofficially began in 2018, in borrowed hitting facilities and free spaces across Walker County, and was my way of giving the next generation a chance when many seemed to have written them off. Through softball and baseball lessons, we've been able to teach valuable life lessons and good work ethic to kids of all ages. Our hope is that by spending time in the cage with them, we will be able to prepare them for life's challenges and to earn sports scholarships so that they can better themselves in the future. By building these relationships, we're able to share with them the ultimate gift of the Gospel, which will continue to sustain them through their entire life.
In 2020, my wife and I were able to officially make Mission 34 a nonprofit 501c3. Initially, we were able to receive grant funding that allowed us to start building our own hitting facility located in our hometown of Cordova, Alabama. This facility will allow teams from across the surrounding counties to have a space to train, learn, and grow as a team and as individuals. It will also give us a safe space to work One on One with kids who need access to free coaching. These kids often would not otherwise be able to receive the help they need to grow into the men and women we know they can be, we want to give them that chance. By coaching these kids in sports and in life, we believe we can make a major impact in the lives of the Next Generation.
Unfortunately, though we are a Public Charity, we recently discovered when we received our last grant from the Walker County Area Community Foundation, that due to a clerical error in the setup of our Non-Profit, we are currently recognized by the IRS as a Private Foundation. This is not correct, and we are in the process of having the error corrected. However, this could take up to 180 days, meaning our organization will need to make it for up to 6 months with no grant funding. Fortunately, The WACF is a local foundation, and were willing to grant us our initial funding. With the building nearing the finish line, we need funding to purchase remaining equipment for the building, chairs for the seating area, and covering general operation costs until we are able to receive grants again.
With that being said, we are praying and asking that you would join us in making a difference in Walker County and beyond. Our vision is to support the Next Generation by loving them, resourcing them, and sharing the Gospel with them. We believe that the Holy Spirit will provide where we cannot, and we have full faith that the best is yet to come!
Thank you for supporting Mission 34, and thank you for supporting the Next Generation.
For the love of the Lord, for the love of the game.
