After years of hard work to provide for my family, my life changed overnight when I was diagnosed with a moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI). The injury left me unable to do the physical labor I’ve relied on for so long, and my cognitive issues—like severe migraines, memory loss, and mood swings—make it hard to do even the simplest things. Some days, it’s a struggle just to get out of bed. Without family to lean on, I lost my job and, eventually, our home. Now, my 16-year-old son and I are homeless, trying to find a safe place to stay and a way forward.

Right now, I need help paying for hotel rooms, food, clothing, and temporary housing so we can have some stability while I work to get back on my feet. My medications are costly, and I often have to choose between getting the medicine I need or making sure we have enough to eat. More than anything, I want my son to be able to focus on school and not worry about how we’ll make ends meet each day. He doesn’t always understand how much my TBI affects me, but I keep going because he depends on me.

I’m not someone who usually asks for help—I’ve always turned to God and tried to handle things on my own. But now, I know I need to keep the faith and reach out. Anything helps, no matter how big or small. If anyone has advice or knows of agencies that can guide me, I’m all ears.
