My name is clay, and I am a 62-year-old disabled retired law enforcement officer. I dedicated my life to serving my community, but after sustaining numerous injuries on duty, I was forced to retire early from the career I loved. Losing my job was devastating, and it led to even more hardship when my wife of 17 years decided she did not want to be married to a disabled person and divorced me.
On top of these challenges, my 82-year-old mother, who has severe health problems, had nowhere else to go. I moved her into my very small house, and now I live in an RV behind the residence so she can have a safe place to stay. Despite my best efforts, the rising cost of living has made it impossible for us to make ends meet on my disability income. My pride has always kept me from asking for help, but I can’t do it alone anymore—my mother depends on me, and I am afraid we may lose everything.
I am raising funds to help us sell our current property and purchase a practical home where both my mother and I can live together safely and affordably. If enough is raised, we may finally be able to survive and regain some stability. After years in law enforcement serving others and destroying my body helping to save others, my body can no longer take the stress, and any support would mean the world to me and my mother.
