I hate asking for help, but I’ve run out of options. I live with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and other health issues that make moving and daily life extremely difficult. After more than a decade of housing instability and discrimination from the housing authority, including months of delays and repeated refusals to approve needed accommodations, I just want a place where we finally feel safe and stable.
When I first got a housing voucher in 2013, I had three minor children and was so hopeful. But only months later, that home was condemned, and by 2014 we were homeless. Since then, we’ve lived in several places, some unsafe and some unstable, and even the one home that met our needs was sold after five years because the rent wasn’t high enough.
After losing that home, I searched through over 75 listings trying to find somewhere that met our needs and would accept the voucher. The one that truly fit refused, and I eventually had to settle for our current place. It doesn’t meet my disability needs, and the housing authority has repeatedly delayed or denied the accommodations I require.
This is our fifth home since 2013. My child’s school district has failed her again. She’s on forced homebound instruction because they still won’t follow her doctor’s letters. I can’t keep doing this.
Owning a home is the only way to finally have peace and stability. There are still small, older houses for around $40–45,000 that would give us a permanent place to live. My goal is to raise $40,000 to buy one outright and end this cycle for good.
All donations go directly into my verified disability savings account (ABLE) so I can safely use the funds for housing without affecting SSI, Medicaid, or other benefits.
Thank you for reading, sharing, or donating. Every bit of help truly matters.
