Help us fight Rhett’s Canavan Disease
Our sweet boy Rhett was diagnosed with a rare progressive brain disease at just 5 months old and has been fighting since the day he was born. His symptoms started at 5 weeks old with nystagmus. Since then, he has had numerous EEG’s, countless doctors appointments, and every therapy you can think of. As of now, Rhett has global development delay, cortical vision impairment, and epilepsy, all as a result of Canavan Disease. Rhett is unable to achieve these milestones and continues to lose those that he currently has. Even as a 1 year old he cannot support his own head or reach for a toy, but he loves to be snuggled and talked to, even if he doesn’t have it in him to try to communicate back to us. Our loving happy baby has been given a fatal diagnosis well before adulthood.
As medicine progresses, we are fighting on his behalf to give him his best shot at life. Fortunately, new gene-therapy treatments are in the works to treat this disease and stop its progression. However, the costs to make this happen are often out of our means. We are asking for any help to give our boy a chance at life, a chance for him to grow up with his brother and his sister, a chance to show the world love and appreciation for the simple things when everything else life has to offer is out of your hands. We are thankful for every donation and time that was spent reading this to raise awareness for Canavan Disease.
