Help Us Feed Louisiana Hurricane Laura Victims

Hi, my name is Jennifer Atwood, I live in Alexandria, Louisiana. I am a small business owner of a restaurant named Embers. Embers restaurant was started in 2014 with the goal of revitalizing a downtown community in central Louisiana. When building the restaurant I employed the homeless to help build her dream, finding many of them long term jobs after the restaurant was built. I am the type of person who helps my community without wanting anyone to know. I have poured my heart, soul, and life savings into this restaurant and community.
On Thursday, August 27, 2020, Hurricane Laura ravaged Louisiana, not only on the gulf coast but in central and northern Louisiana as well. While many organizations are providing relief to those in need of shelter and food in the most devastated areas, many are left without power and water for weeks to come and need assistance. We are in dire need of food to sustain our first responders, the victims of the hurricane, and the homeless. As people wait for power, return to their homes, find temporary housing while waiting for their home to be fixed or rebuild, there will be more need for feeding not only those in need but the relief and building crews and volunteers.
When Laura made landfall it reached Central Louisiana as a category 2 hurricane, the worst storm the area had ever seen. I was lucky as my home and restaurant were spared major damage, many of my neighbors were not so lucky. Local electric companies are giving those in Rapides, Grant, and Vernon Parishes timelines of as much as 2-6 weeks of being without power, as much of the area is rural.
The funds will be used for the preparation and distribution of meals for those in need, especially those in outlying areas and the elderly. Once the emergency needs are met the remaining funds will help Jennifer and her staff feed the homeless.
I, along with the Embers staff (some without power and homes) want to help feed the hungry and provide them with a hot meal during this difficult time. Please help us feed as many people as possible.
