Help Us Expand Vocational Opportunities
Donation protected
Torch 180 is excited to have the opportunity to expand our employability training services and opportunities into 102 E. Grand River Ave, Fowlerville! The main floor will be divided into 4-6 stalls which will be used as retail space for the Torch 180 shop and other microentrepreneurs. Torch 180 students will run the Torch 180 store - providing retail and customer service training for individuals who have disadvantages. The other microentrepreneur stations will be offered at affordable rental prices to independent merchants - who will also be willing to work with students on a rotating basis, giving the students an opportunity to learn from other individuals.
The Torch 180 shop will be a fully functioning store, offering merchandise and non-perishable baked goods which are not sold at the Cafe' & Coffee Bar located at 131 Mill St., Fowlerville, MI 48836. Students will have the opportunity to practice cashiering, greeting, managing stock and inventory, loss prevention, and all aspects of customer service in the retail industry in our safe training space. In addition, they will be able to complete Retail Service training which includes extensive employability soft skills, such as communication, time management, personal judgment, and other important soft skills.
Community Benefits:
Both the city of Fowlerville and Handy Township will benefit from the Torch 180 Shops at 102 Grand River Ave.. This building has been empty for several years, and the addition of Torch 180 in the downtown space will offer a welcome addition! Specialty shops in downtown Fowlerville will appeal to individuals who wish to spend a leisurely afternoon strolling through town or find themselves in need of a gift or some other locally sourced item. The support of the surrounding communities for individuals who have disadvantages has been amazing at the Torch 180 Cafe & Coffee Shop, and that support will only continue to grow as more individuals have the opportunity to be trained for employment through our new retail space!
