Dear friends,
We are a family of four—a father, mother, and two daughters—reaching out with heavy hearts. Our lives have been devastated by war. We lost our home, I lost my livelihood as a software engineer, and—most painfully—we lost the safe environment my youngest daughter, who survived open-heart surgery, desperately needs.
Our youngest daughter, only six years old, underwent open-heart surgery and urgently needs ongoing medical care—care that is impossible to access in Gaza. For her survival, and for our family’s safety, we must evacuate Gaza. But we cannot afford the overwhelming costs.
When the war began on October 7, 2023, we were forced to flee multiple times within Gaza City. Later, we fled south to Rafah before briefly returning to Gaza City during a truce in early January 2025. After nine months of trying to rebuild, the war intensified again in September 2025, forcing us on another painful journey south. That last trip alone cost nearly $1,000 in transportation fees.
Life here is unimaginably difficult.
Every day is a fight to secure the basics:
- Transportation: Moving from one place to another can cost nearly $1,000.
- Shelter: We are now living in a flimsy tent of canvas and fabric that offers no protection from the brutal summer heat, the bitter winter cold, or the rain. Renting a small apartment or even a plot of land costs $500–$1,000 per month, while a simple tent like ours can cost up to $1,000.
- Daily Living: Food, milk, water, and other essentials are more expensive than ever
Because of the war and blockade, there is now a severe cash crisis in Gaza. With banks and ATMs destroyed, physical currency is extremely scarce. To access any money, people are forced to use informal markets, where fees range from 30% to 50%. For example, to withdraw $100, we would only receive about $60—making survival nearly impossible.
The war has taken everything from us: our home, our livelihood, our security. I once worked remotely as a software engineer for a U.S. company, but with the destruction of infrastructure—electricity, internet, and safe workspaces—I lost my job overnight. From being a provider, I became a father struggling to secure the most basic needs.
