Help Us Empower 700 Students in Lagos: 700 Pupils Project

Transcend Education is committed to providing high-quality life skills and career development training to students in government secondary schools across Lagos. This February, we are rolling out our 700 Pupils Project, a unique program designed to equip 700 students from underserved communities in Yaba with essential skills for a brighter future.

The Problem:

In Nigeria, over 40% of young people face challenges in finding meaningful employment, with a severe lack of social capital, career guidance, and soft skills needed for job success. Students from deprived areas, particularly in Lagos, struggle to access the opportunities that can help them break free from cycles of poverty.

Without the right support, they are less likely to secure high-quality jobs or even to progress in their education. The lack of access to career development programs, mentorship, and practical life skills hinders their ability to succeed in an already competitive job market.

Studies show that children from disadvantaged backgrounds are significantly less likely to climb the social ladder, mainly because they don't have the same opportunities or networks. This leaves them at a disadvantage compared to their more privileged peers when applying for jobs, often locked into lower-income opportunities, reinforcing generational poverty. By empowering these students with life skills such as public speaking, goal setting, decision-making, and financial literacy, we can significantly improve their future prospects and increase their chances of social mobility.

Our Solution:

The 700 Pupils Project aims to tackle these challenges head-on. With your support, we will provide career development workshops in seven government secondary schools in Yaba, Lagos, helping students develop the essential skills needed to thrive in their future careers.

These workshops will cover vital topics like:

Public Speaking

Goal Setting

Professional Etiquette

Decision Making

Each session is designed to boost their confidence, improve their employability, and provide them with the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

To make this program a reality, we need to raise £7,000, which will cover:

Transporting facilitators and materials to 7 government secondary schools

Creating and designing the curriculum for workshops and training

Training 140 teachers to enhance their capacity in embedding these skills throughout their teaching

Training 10 facilitators to conduct impactful workshops across multiple schools

Providing students with essential career development resources

Organising follow-up workshops to ensure lasting impact

Arranging 2-week summer internships for 3 students

Holding our Ultimate Showcase event on the final day, where students will present their work to key figures in industry
