A Safe Haven for Older Teens & Young Adults in Reading

When I created the Village of Reading, one clear message echoed from our community:

“We need a space just for us a place for older teens and young adults.”

A space where young people are not watched, policed, or judged but welcomed, supported, and free to just be themselves.

Our first attempt at finding that space didn’t work out. But now, thanks to the resilience of our community, we have something even better:

A brand new space opening this August The Attic a safe haven designed specifically for youth to gather, heal, create, and connect.

Why The Attic matters

The Attic will be open late providing a critical, supervised but non-intrusive space during hours when young people are most vulnerable to violence and harm.

Late nights are often the most dangerous times for our youth. By keeping this space open late, The Attic offers:

A safe place to escape negative influences

Positive connection with peers and mentors

Opportunities for creative expression and healing

A community that understands and supports them

This space isn’t about surveillance or control. It’s about trust, culture, and belonging.

We are raising funds to:

* Furnish the space with cozy seating, tables, and shelves

* Provide art supplies, snacks, plants, and essentials that make the space welcoming

* Cover utilities and operating costs to keep doors open late and free to all

* Maintain a space with no strings attached, no fees, just real support

Every dollar donated helps keep The Attic open and accessible to those who need it most older teens and young adults who often feel invisible or unsafe in other parts of the city.
