majal: a place to meet, learn, create, and belong

We are turning a beautiful space on Sonnenallee into something Berlin needs more of: an affordable neighborhood café, a multilingual book point, and an open cultural and community space where everyone is welcome.

Imagine walking in on a typical afternoon: someone is reading with a coffee, a language exchange is happening at the next table, children are discovering books in different languages, and neighbors who have never met before are sharing a conversation.

In our rooms, workshops, discussions, cultural events, exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and community gatherings will bring people together across languages, backgrounds, and experiences.

That is the place we are building.

Help us complete and equip the space

The project is already underway. Renovation has begun, furniture is moving in, and we have already hosted our first small events.

Now we are raising funds for the final steps needed to open the space fully. This is a one-time fundraising campaign to help us create the physical foundation of majal.

️ Equipping the kitchen and preparing the café area

Setting up our multilingual book point with books for all ages and backgrounds

️ Covering renovation costs and improvements to make the space welcoming and accessible

We are a group of friends, organizers, and neighbors who have spent years creating spaces where people can meet, learn, support one another, and build community in Berlin.

Now we have found a permanent home for this work.

Creating a space like this takes more than ideas and volunteer energy. It takes materials, equipment, furniture, books, and the work needed to transform an empty space into a living place for the neighborhood.

We have invested everything we can. Now we are asking the people who believe in this vision to help us complete it.
