Help us Create a Community Arts Hub

Stoneface Creative is a small arts based enterprise in Sheffield (www.stonefacecreative.com). We are an organisation that specialises in the creation of stone carvings, sculptures and canvases made from a variety of innovative materials.

Over the last five years we have worked with an increasing number of charities, schools and community groups, giving free and open access to Storrs Wood (our natural art gallery) and offering opportunities to partake in community arts and environmental projects. To date we have undertaken all of this work in a voluntary unpaid capacity.

Over the last five years we have delivered and supported a range of beneficial activities, including; Sculpture workshops for a local specialist school , hosting a woodland play and learning group for young children, mountain biking workshops, an over 50’s walking group and an arts collaboration project with Sheffield Hallam University film and media students. We host regular open days and hands on workshop experiences so groups and the public can access art and woodland activities.

Over the next six months we are planning to work in partnership with a range of new groups to make Storrs Wood accessible to a range of people who will benefit from our art and environmental projects, including:

· A project working along side Artworks Sheffield and supporting people with a mixed range of learning difficulties to learn woodland management skills including path clearing, learning about nature and creating animal habitats.

· A children’s play and learning group for children aged 0-4, using fun woodland activities to support children’s early years’ development by increasing skills and confidence through working and playing in the natural environment.

· Fun introduction to arts and sculpture sessions / workshops for young children.

There is significant potential to develop Stoneface as a hub of artistic, education and community based activity; which could significantly benefit South Yorkshire residents - particularly those who do not normally access community based art. We would like to further develop Stoneface to deliver and lead on a wider range of charitable activities and projects. However, we are presently established as a private company, which was not established for / and is not a suitable model for the delivery of community based activity. As a private limited company we are finding it difficult to access funding support from grant making trusts who potentially could support our beneficial community art and environmental activities.

We have lots of exciting ideas to develop the organisation, but we need financial support to develop a strong organisational charitable model that is best suited to meeting the needs of Stoneface going forward, if we are going to deliver more community based work. We have sought initial advice from a legal practice who specialise in supporting and establishing ‘not for profit’ charitable organisations.

We seeking support through our Go Fund Me appeal towards establishing a not for profit organisation and project development plan with training. This will create a strong organisational base for the delivery of beneficial projects. Importantly this structure will allow us to apply for community grant and contract opportunities.

We believe that community art should be available to everyone. As what we offer is not a ‘traditional’ art gallery, we have found that many groups and individuals who do not normally access the arts have visited Stoneface as we are open, free and accessible to all. A recent government report found that community arts projects can make a powerful positive contribution to health and wellbeing. This appeal gives us an opportunity to further engage and work with a wider range of groups and individuals who can reap the benefits of our brand of community arts projects

We hope that you may see potential in Stoneface and may be able help us to create a strong and sustainable arts and environmental organisation that will benefit many people for years to come. Any support you are able to offer towards our project cost would be gratefully received.
