My name is Imani Walker (formerly Imani Sharp), and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart on behalf of my beloved grandmother, Anita Sharp — affectionately known in Edwardsville as “Mama Sharp” or simply “Ms. Sharp.”
For over 70 years, Mama Sharp has been a blessing to her community. From her first haircuts to baking treats for every holiday, giving rides, sharing meals, might have gotten a few curse words to set your attitude straight and making people laugh — she’s poured love into every life she touched.
But now, she needs that love returned.
In just one year, she’s lost her home of over 20 years, been diagnosed with two forms of cancer, and is battling a long list of other serious health issues. She now lives in Georgia with her eldest daughter Rae, who has taken on her care full-time. While we’re doing everything we can, state support doesn’t cover all of her needs — including a wheelchair that was never returned, incontinence supplies, food, shelter, and daily transportation to appointments.
We’re asking her community — anyone who’s ever sat in her chair, tasted her cookies, or felt her warmth — to please pray for her and, if you can, donate. No amount is too small. Every bit helps her on this new and difficult journey.
Thank you for loving Mama Sharp all these years. She deserves comfort, dignity, and better days ahead.
With gratitude,
Imani Walker
