Help us build winter shelters in Prince George, BC

Hello, we are Reto Steiner and Shawn Balaghi and we're reaching out today as part of the team at InGreen Building Systems.

InGreen Systems is a small business based out of Red Deer, Alberta that designs and builds high efficiency pre-fabricated homes and commercial buildings that are eco-friendly and zero waste.

We recently came across a CBC article about what's been going on Prince George, BC. We were impressed with the work and dedication of those who have been volunteering their time and resources to try to build safe and winter-proof pods for people in Prince George experiencing homelessness.

After reading this, we connected with the volunteers and asked if there was any way we could support this project. The volunteers indicated that they are in desperate need of a way to speed up the building project as a rough winter is rapidly approaching northern BC.

The strength of InGreen Systems is in its speed from design to build. After speaking with the volunteers, we took it upon ourselves to draw up plans for transitional pods specifically designed to:

We shared our designs and building process with the volunteers and they were very interested in moving in this direction. Generally speaking, we can build one pod in six hours. InGreen Systems has already built and donated the first pod, which is ready to be shipped. We will be donating the design and the build for enough pods for all of the residents, and are raising funds to buy the raw materials for them so that we can get them on site as quickly as possible.

This project will remain free of charge to the city, the volunteers and the residents, but we can't see that vision through without you. To be clear, the funds we're seeking will solely be used to help support the Prince George community through this particular project, for the raw materials and transportation of the pods. InGreen Systems will also donate the staff and time needed to build the pods to ensure that things move as quickly and smoothly as possible.

We hope that this project is a stepping stone to future work that InGreen can do as we grow, to uplift underserved communities who are facing the housing crisis across Canada.
