Help Us Build the Nkuringo Community Centre

The Gorilla Junction Foundation, founded in 2012, is focused on community elevation. 86% of Uganda's population is rural-based and survives solely on subsistence farming in a fast-diminishing environment. This organization helps these rural communities, starting with a small group around our lodge, Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, by assisting families in learning better farming methods and finding other income sources to complement their subsistence incomes.

The Gorilla Junction Foundation started as a small coffee shop that acted as a meet-up point for the Nkuringo Walking Safari guides and travelers who wanted an off-the-beaten-track experience and to support our fair trade initiative.

Join us today in fundraising for the next step in our journey, building a Community Centre in Nkuringo. We have purchased land to build the Robert Brierley Memorial Community Centre, whose main focus will be skilling the local community in carpentry, tailoring, hospitality and guiding, all aimed at skilling them in employment. Together we can add one brick at a time to local skilling, a critical element for local socioeconomic development in rural Uganda, which in turn supports wildlife protection and sustainability.

Our lodge, in the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, has helped create a base for our conservation and community projects, starting with the onsite "Go Green" endeavours like a no plastics rule, water harvesting, employment, skilling women and girls, and providing a market for local arts, souvenirs, and fresh garden produce.
