My name is Don Berry Sr., a medically retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant and founder of Second Mission Veterans Housing Initiative™ in Detroit, Michigan.
After serving our country, too many veterans return home only to face homelessness, unemployment, and isolation. I created Second Mission because I believe no veteran’s next chapter should begin on the streets — it should begin in safe housing with real support and a clear path forward.
I am proud to share that Second Mission Veterans Housing Initiative™ is now officially a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, meaning all donations are tax-deductible and directly support our mission.
We are working to open our first supervised transitional home that will provide:
• Safe, stable housing for veterans in crisis
• Life-skills coaching and structured support
• Employment readiness and job placement assistance
• Connection to VA services and community resources
Our goal is to help veterans move from crisis to stability and into permanent, independent housing.
OUR FIRST-YEAR IMPACT GOAL
• Provide safe housing for 12 veterans
• Help at least 75% secure stable income or employment
• Transition 75% into permanent housing
• Connect 100% to VA support services
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
To open our first home, we must secure housing, furnish the space, and fund the initial operational costs. Your support will directly help veterans in Detroit rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and opportunity.
HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS
• $25 helps provide meals and essential supplies
• $50 helps cover transportation and job search support
• $100 helps furnish safe living spaces for veterans
• $500 helps support housing and life-skills programs
