If you're here, you have probably gone on a street art walking tour with Underground Amman, and if you’re new, welcome! Underground Amman is a hip hop and alternative arts initiative in Amman, Jordan that’s been operating since 2019. After years of dreaming of our own space, it's finally becoming a reality! With the help of the Goethe Institut, we're repurposing an old abandoned building in the heart of Amman's old city into a hub for creativity and self expression.
Dammeh Arts Center is a community space that provides youth with an accessible and inclusive environment to explore a broad range of artistic expression and embody the the hip hop values of peace, love, unity and having fun.
Due to limited public space in Amman, the hip hop community here has never had its own space to call home until now. At Dammeh, you're not just a guest or participant, but a co-creator and core member.
If you've been on one of our tours, you know that part of your donation goes towards supporting our hip hop and graffiti art communities. You are the reason we're even here today and able to get this center off the ground. Unfortunately, due to the impact of the regional war, we’ve had a significant drop in tours and donations.
As you can see in the video, Dammeh is currently being renovated. We need your help to furnish and equip the center. Your donations will go towards tables and chairs, lighting, sound systems, dance floor, and art supplies (paint, canvas, stationary, etc). If you're in Amman and would like to give an in-kind donation, get in touch with us!
With your support, we’re hoping to open our doors by May 1st. Can you help co-create Dammeh with us? We can’t wait to welcome you soon.
