"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing." (2:261)
During Ramadan of 2020, we were able to raise a a total of $6,308 for a new water well for the people of Youri (https://www.launchgood.com/campaign/help_us_build_a_water_well_for_the_people_of_youri#!/). With those funds, a new water well was installed and is still in use and of great benefit to the villagers today. This Ramadan, we are seeking to raise additional 6k for the people of Diaye Coura, who have been in need of a new water well system since April of 2021. Diaye Coura is located in the Nioro du Sahel region of Kaye’s, Mali and is only a few short hours away from Youri. Like most of Mali, Diaye Coura is a dry and arid region with a hot desert climate that typically experiences extreme heat through the year. The villagers of Diaye Coura see relief from the heat during the Rainy season, which begins in mid June and tapers off around mid September. However, between September and June, the villagers are left with little to no water, as the heat dries up the old water well systems that are currently in place.
Many of the villagers in Diaye Coura, do not have access to water in their area and must travel to nearby neighborhoods to attempt to pump water out of old and drying wells. The central marketplace that all of the villagers frequent, has a water well/pump system in place, however, it began to dry out in 2021 and has not been sufficient, enough for the villagers. It was said to have been ineffective at producing water for days and weeks at a time. The people of Diaye Coura have been trying, for years, to raise money to install a new and improved water well and pump system, however, have been unsuccessful in raising the necessary funds to complete the project.
We are now counting on you and your generous contribution to help us finally complete this project for the villagers of Diaye Coura. As individuals who share this earth with others, not only is it our duty, but it is incumbent upon us to help, serve and protect those who are underprivileged. We often times take for granted the fact that we have clean and fresh water readily available and at our disposal whenever we need it. We forget that there are people in this world that do not have this luxury and right now, those people, are the people of Diaye Coura, and with your contribution to this project, we can make water more accessible, and life as a whole, easier, for them.
We kindly ask that you donate what you can, if you can, and if you cannot, please share this campaign. Please help us reach our fundraising goal before the start of the Rainy season! Let’s gift the people of Diaye Coura the basic necessity of water, a necessity that should be accessible for everyone. Every dollar counts!
“Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.” (2:245) It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allah said: ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’” Narrated by al-Bukhari, 5073; Muslim, 993.
