Hello, my name is Corbin Dallas.
If you don't know already, I'm working on a community project that is seeking to offer jobs, connections, and stabilization to our trans, queer, disabled, nerodiverse, and otherwise marginalized folx.
We narrowed down our ideas and focused on doing a summer camp that operates year-round, working in conjunction with 2S and queer elders, helping to provide conservation education, resources, and support to those who come and visit to take part in workshops as hosts or students.
Year-round, it will be focused on helping queer adults, but during the summertime, we hope to have that same community offer courses and classes for a GSA chapter we're starting. We'll be hosting business incubators to help those in need, and in general, we'll make as many opportunities for collaboration as possible.
We have an overarching cooperative model in mind, too, that will help to sustain and grow our community. I'm doing what I can, from the place of privilege that I hold as a former houseless trans veteran, who knows where my meals are coming from and that I have a roof over my head every night.
We're trying to pivot our plan for Rainbow Refuge into something even more grassroots, because the time for action is now. The sad reality of it all is that those who are trying to take part in this are already struggling. We have people who are already houseless, whom we are getting places set up to house them, and we're trying to help cover the costs of transportation of people and goods.
This is no small ask, and we need help. So this is me reaching out to see if we can find partners in fighting for our community. We plan to pay everything forward and to always be transparent with our goals and actions. We aim to make space now, across kitchen tables and while planting seeds for the future.
If anyone is interested in helping, however they can, please reach out. I have people ready to act, to build, we're just unable to do so under the constraints of this capitalistic hellscape. Legal fees, fuel prices, and the cost of human effort outside of our everyday struggle are what are hindering upward movement.
I'm in conversations with organizations, but we need sponsors and collaborators NOW. Not months or years down the line.
Thank you all, and may you stay safe in these unprecedented times. Know you're loved and not alone.
