Hi, my name is Mario Adolfo Palma Mendez, and for a long time, people knew me as "Worst Case."
That name was a badge of honour for years—a reflection of the reckless, chaotic life I was living. I grew up surrounded by violence, addiction, and poverty. I wore my pain like armour, and it pushed me to the brink. I was lost in my own addiction to crack cocaine, even while I was building what looked like a successful life on the outside. But behind the scenes, I was falling apart.
After immense heartache—the murder of my aunt, the overdose of my uncle, and the countless friends I lost along the way. I realized I was running from the man I wanted to be.
Today, I am over two years clean. I'm fighting to take my life back, one day at a time, and I'm dedicated to helping others find their way back, too. My inspiration? A misunderstood bully breed dog. His loyalty, strength, and resilience saved me. That experience taught me that true strength isn't about being tough or staying silent; it's about compassion, connection, and a community that stands together.
This is why I started Bullies Against Bullying.
Our Mission: More Than Muscle, More Than Silence
Bullies Against Bullying is a men's health and mental well-being organization dedicated to shattering the silence and stigma around men's mental health. We believe in building a "pact"—a community where men can find support, mentorship, and a path to healing without judgment.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for a down payment on a recovery and rescue ranch in Sayward, British Columbia.
This isn't just a building; it's a vision for a place called The Recovery Ranch. It will be a self-sustaining, substance-free environment where men can rebuild their lives. Our unique approach will combine mentorship and life-skills training with Therapeutic Animal Care, where residents will help care for bully breed dogs. This powerful bond will foster responsibility, purpose, and profound emotional healing.
To achieve this, we're not asking for handouts or government grants. We're launching a campaign called "100,000 Shirts for a Cause." Every shirt we sell is a vote for change and a tangible step toward making this ranch a reality. We believe in earning our way forward with the support of people who believe in second chances.
How You Can Help
We can't do this alone. We need your help to make this dream a reality and give men a place to heal.
Donate Directly: Any amount you can contribute will get us closer to our $100,000 goal for the down payment. No donation is too small.
Purchase a T-Shirt: Head over to our website, www.ourmenmatter.ca, and purchase a shirt. Each one is a symbol of our movement and a direct contribution to our campaign.
Share Our Story: The most powerful thing you can do is share this post. Post it on your social media, email it to your friends, and tell everyone you know about our mission. The more people who hear Mario's story, the more lives we can touch.
I've been in the shoes of the men we want to help. I've worked as a coordinator at a warming centre, as a harm reduction worker, and as a responder. I know what it takes to get to the other side. This ranch isn't just a project for me; it's a promise to the men who are still struggling in the shadows.
Thank you for believing in second chances, for supporting men's health, and for helping us prove that true strength comes from compassion and community.
With gratitude, Mario Adolfo Palma Mendez
