Help us build a mobile tiny home for Steve
Donation protected
Steve is a lifelong builder with a dream of living in a tiny home. The closest he has come to this dream was when he lived in an Airstream trailer in Austin (when he met our mom). Apparently he managed to fit an upright piano in that trailer!
In September 2020, Steve had a serious stroke. He has come a LONG way since then, but he's still not able to work enough to fully support himself. And rent in Seattle plus a storage unit for all his tools take a big chunk out of that social security check each month.
That old tiny home dream became a real possibility when our friend Gabriel Much revealed that he had a tiny home hookup on his property and was looking for a tenant. This gave us the opportunity to reduce Dad's rent burden and make sure he had stable housing that could move with him in the future.
So we're going for it! Uncle Ken Schober donated a trailer and helped with design, we started construction in August, and it's starting to take real shape.
Now, about the financial side of things.
We're taking a frugal approach to building the home, we're using second hand materials when we can, and of course we're doing the labor ourselves, but the costs are adding up. We expect the total materials cost to be about $10,000. Plus we're paying two rents during the building process -- $650 for his current place and $300 for the tiny home spot totaling $950 in rent per month (double rent started in August and hopefully won't go past December or January).
So the total we're aiming to raise is $10k for materials + half of the total rent during the build phase: $475 (950/2) x 6 months = $2,850. So a $12,850 campaign.
Various family members have already contributed $3,750 as of the launch of this GoFundMe, leaving just $9,100 to go.
Are you able to contribute something toward materials and rent?
We'd also love to see your face if you're in the Seattle area! Either to swing a hammer or just say hi. We usually help out on weekends and Steve's also often there during the week.
Love,
Arbor and Adrian
