About Just Like Mom Care
Just Like Mom Care was started to support the disability community by connecting families who have a child or loved one with special needs or disabilities with caregivers who get it. This was started because of a need for our own family. Having a daughter who was born deaf, with cerebral palsy, and with developmental delay, we have been looking for respite care for 17 years and know the struggles in finding someone who understands our child's quirks, behavior needs, feeding needs, and more. We can't just look to the sitter up the street. It takes a lot of digging and time we don't have.
Parents/Family Caregivers Are Experiencing Burnout
Behind closed doors, millions of parents are running on empty. They love their children but the day-to-day demands — therapy appointments, school challenges, constant supervision (on top of caring for their other children and working full time jobs)— takes a toll. What keeps them going is an occasional break. Right now, their best option is word-of-mouth or begging for referrals. It’s unreliable and when you can't find care, it leaves families isolated and overwhelmed. If parents can't take care of themselves, they can't take proper care of their child.
What We Are Doing
With Just Like Mom Care, we are building the first platform to help families find special needs or disability caregivers while creating a community. As we move along, we are leaning into specialty and elderly care.
How Your Donation Will Help
1. Awareness, Outreach & Recruitment - Events & Education
To get the word out to families and to recruit caregivers, we need to create awareness in the community. We also plan to host events such as "caregiver burnout" spa days, dj dance parties so potential caregivers can meet the ones who need care, as well as working with the schools because education needs to happen early on. We know the work doesn't stop and it takes a village.
Family caregiving is a huge crisis we face in this country and whether you are a family caregiver or a parent to someone with special, unique or medical needs or if you are now taking care of an elderly parent who now has a disability, the need is there and it takes a community to make change.
2. Upkeep of Our Website
We are running a membership platform/site so with that, we need to maintain security, keep notification emails running, and manage the site. Continuous back-end development also needs to take place.
Why This is Important
The demand for caregivers is rising
This growth reflects a rising demand for personal care aides and caregiving roles, driven by an aging population and increased need for long-term care services (disability services).
In the US, disability numbers are rising
- 1 in 4 people have a disability
- 25% of people will have a disability in their lifetime
- 5.74 million people have a disability
Who We Are
This was founded and started as a passion project by myself - Tamra Logan, but now after some organic growth, my husband has been taking on the business side of things while I continue to also focus on my other full-time job (a Case Management Agency for the disability community) as well as care for our daughter Birkley. My husband Terry Logan was a former EVP with Omnicom and once he saw the potential with this project, he had to join in.
Thank You
