In many countries, LGBTQ individuals face persecution, criminalization and violence. Recently we became aware of a young man who has fled his home country in Africa to escape persecution based on his sexual orientation. We at Bay Village Coffee, have been approved to bring him to Canada. We are asking our customers and friends to assist us in this endeavour. We will be setting him up in the community with accommodation, housewares, winter clothing, connecting him with services, helping him to find employment and get settled. We see this as an opportunity to work together as a community to welcome a newcomer.
