Help us bring a much-needed toilet to Plot 9!

Dear Community,
I'm Andy Millns, the creator of Plot 9 Maze Hill, a new community garden and gathering space in Greenwich. A happy new year to those of you I haven’t seen yet! New team member Clare Barry and I have ambitious plans for Plot 9 this year, but first we need to sort out a pressing upgrade to the space…
This campaign is to ask for your help to build a proper toilet (ie, not the bucket-behind-a-tarpaulin the 600+ visitors had the unholy option of encountering last year!). The installation of a composting toilet will not only hugely upgrade the garden but also contribute to our commitment to sustainability.
Why a Composting Toilet?
- Environmental Friendliness: Unlike traditional toilets, a composting toilet doesn't require water, reducing our ecological footprint and promoting water conservation.
- DIY Construction: I've taken the initiative to salvage many materials already and I plan to undertake the construction myself, ensuring that every effort is made to keep costs low.
- Quick Implementation: Our goal is to have the composting toilet operational by the end of February (weather permitting). With your support we can expedite the construction process!
- Free Nutrients: The composting process will allow us to transform solid waste into valuable compost over a year. This will then be used to enrich the soil and nourish the ornamental plants in our garden, contributing to the green oasis.
How You Can Help
As many of you know, I’ve funded the garden personally up until last year when donations from our Plot 9 Presents… attendees allowed us to build new bench seating. This campaign marks the start of exploring for new ways to sustainably fund the space and expedite important projects such as this.
I have sourced salvaged materials to cover as much of the construction as possible (shout out to the generous skips of east Greenwich!) but am looking for your support to cover the remaining material costs. Some ways in which you can help:

- Spread the Word: Share our campaign with friends, family, colleagues and organisations who share an interest in sustainable initiatives and community-building.

A toilet is obviously a crucial next step for the garden and will allow us to move forward with our plans to maximise the therapeutic benefit of this precious community green space.
