Growing up, Nancy Mba—our founder at the Magnificent Smiles Foundation (Msmiles)—faced immense pressure to follow the status quo: early marriage or dropping out of school due to socioeconomic challenges. But she believed in something more. Through hard work, determination, and the power of support from organizations like the Mastercard Foundation, CAMFED and the African Gifted Foundation when her education was at risk, Nancy defied the odds.
In 2023, she graduated from Ashesi University with First Class Honours in Engineering and the Presidential Award, the highest distinction a student can earn from Ashesi University. She’s also been recognized by global institutions like the Talloires Network of Engaged Universities and the Kofi Annan Foundation for her impactful leadership and advocacy for children from underprivileged backgrounds and impact within and beyond the university community.
Her story changed because someone believed in her. Now, she’s paying it forward.
Why Msmiles?
Msmiles was born from Nancy’s experience volunteering at an orphanage in 2021, where she lived with children who had no textbooks—and teenagers who had never even seen a computer. It reminded her of the inequalities she once faced.
Today, Msmiles is on a mission to give underprivileged children and those in orphanages/foster homes across Ghana the chanhce to create their own success stories—just like Nancy did.
What We Want to Do
We aim to reach 1,000 children across Ghana in the next 2 years through:
Essential Learning Materials: Textbooks, storybooks, notebooks, and school supplies many children still lack.
️ Complementary Workshops: STEM, computer literacy and resilience-building workshops designed to inspire and empower.
Exposure to Opportunity: Career workshops and immersive visits to universities and inspiring institutions, where children learn about scholarships and dream beyond their presence circumstances & living conditions.
Since 2021, we’ve already impacted 450+ children—but we’re just getting started...
