Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts and deep hope as we ask for support for our uncle, Claudio Pérez Riquelme. Claudio lives with severe autism, profound intellectual disability, and limited mobility that requires the use of a wheelchair. Claudio has lived most of his life in the Patagonia region of Chile, a place he loved for its quiet, open landscapes and the familiar routines that helped him feel safe. But earlier this year, devastating wildfires swept through the area. Claudio and his family were forced to evacuate, and the home that had sheltered him for decades was left uninhabitable. For someone with his disabilities, the sudden displacement, loss of routine, and loss of home have been especially traumatic.

This tragedy came on top of unimaginable personal loss. Claudio’s father—his primary guardian—passed away. Only two months later, his sister, who had stepped in as his caregiver, also passed unexpectedly. In a very short time, Claudio lost the two people who understood his needs best and provided the structure his life depended on. Today, Claudio’s care has fallen to his older sister, Gloria Pérez Riquelme, who is doing everything in her power to give him the love, safety, and stability he deserves. But to care for Claudio properly, Gloria needs a home that is wheelchair‑accessible and equipped with the modifications required for his disabilities—wide doorways, ramps, safe bathroom access, and space for mobility equipment. After losing their home in Patagonia, finding a safe and accessible place to live has become urgent. We are raising funds to help cover the down payment for a home that will allow Gloria to continue caring for Claudio with dignity and security. A safe, accessible home is not a luxury for Claudio—it is essential for his daily life, his comfort, and his long‑term well‑being.
